The Consignment Store

Well, Lindsay said she enjoys my "real life" stories, so here's another one for ya, Linds!

Today I went to a store for the first time by myself with all 4 kids.  Seriously, I have not stepped foot in Publix, Walgreens, Target, or anything like that during a weekday with all of the children in tow for 4 MONTHS!  If you think, "oh she's saving so much money!" well, you would be right, except for one evil little website called amazon.com!  Totally kidding, it's not evil, it's wonderful and that's why I buy EVERYTHING there now!  Including diapers and wipes, which are super cheap compared to in the store, plus you get free shipping!

One other little thing I need to say before I get on with this story.  The twins seem to like the number 5 when it comes to poop.  As in, Lyla poops 5 times a day and Zoey only poops every 5 days.  So when Zoey poops, it's an EVENT!  Keep that in mind...

So I was doing Chase's laundry this morning and I realized that he's quickly outgrowing all of his clothes.  He's starting school in 3 weeks and I can't send the poor child in shirts that show his belly!  He's getting so tall so fast.  Normally when I need kids' clothes, I head over to Target.  But if you read about my last trip to Target (and I had help then!), you know I'm not going back there any time soon!  So I decided to load everyone up and head over to our local kids consignment store.  It's only 3 miles away and it's a small shop.  The owner is super nice and Chase and Siena like to play with the toys there while I browse... perfect!  I took the double snap n' go stroller inside, which ended up being a mistake because the minute I started shopping, Zoey started crying and I had to pick her up.  So I ended up having to hold Zoey, push the huge double stroller with the other hand and kick my diaper bag around on the floor since it was too heavy to carry.  I went through 3 different sections of clothes: boys size 5-6, girls size 3T, and girls size 12 months.  About 10 minutes in, I'm wondering why Zoey is still crying and why my hip suddenly feels wet.  And then I realize what's happened: it's day FIVE!  Zoey has poo up her back, up the front, and out the sides!  The owner was really nice and watched Lyla for me while I took the other 3 kids to the back and changed the diaper.  Oh man, it was a good one!!

We were in the store for 30 minutes and other than the big blowout, I would say it was a success!  For $40.50, I got:

Chase:
1 long sleeve button up shirt
2 polos
1 t-shirt
2 pairs of shorts
1 pair of khaki cargo pants

Siena:
1 dress
2 tank tops
1 long sleeve shirt

Zoey:
1 dress
1 skirt

Lyla:
1 dress
1 skirt

So I figure it averages out to $10 per child and even when you buy clothes at Target, just one pair of pants or a little dress would cost that much or more!  Score!

I love consignments! That story makes me shudder for you, at least you had a successful trip...that would be a doozy if it'd been a bust.
