I miss...
Being able to walk everywhere. This is definitely what I miss the most. It kept me in shape, gave me a chance to just be outside, to see people, and really feel like a part of a community.
The mild winters. And the way every one freaked out if it snowed! That was lots of fun.
Learning.
Student government...feeling like I was doing something important.
The goose bumps that I got at the start of every home football game. Or at the end when every one sang the alma mater.
Okay, Harcombe! The salad bar with pineapples, the country fried steak, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, sweet tea, and grilled cheese sandwiches. And cookie break. I dream about it at night. Literally.
Going out on the lake, hiking in the mountains, running on top of the dikes, walking through the Botanical Gardens, or just laying in the grass on Bowman. I always felt so close to nature there.
Having an endless supply of churches to choose from, with lots of people my age.
Feeling really safe and at home.

This is from an old Tiger that use to live in Johnstone and had real fond memories of sitting out on the ledge at night, riding a shopping cart down the halls for fun, and leaning the 40 gallon trash can filled with water up against the hall monitor's door and flooding his room when he opened the door. Shannon, some buildings can be torn down but memories last for a life time.
As an old Johnstone Aer, I miss those long halls filled with girls and the hollows for rifle butts in my closet. I miss everything that you mentioned...it made my heart hurt and long for those days. Every fall I miss running down into the amphitheatre for the First Friday pep rally. It just doesn't seem like the beginning of college football season without it.
