First, Chase's one month stats:
He's 10 pounds, 12 ounces! And 21.5", although the doctor said he thought the nurse measured incorrectly because he "seems so much bigger than that!" I'll have to look up the percentiles for those measurements because Chase was crying a bit when the doctor told me and I don't remember them. But the good news is that he's growing like a weed and perfectly healthy!
I'm learning so much these days. Today I took a trip with Chase to the mall after his doctor's appointment. It was the first time I've been to the mall with him by myself... usually Eric's with me. It was so interesting to see how different the world is when you have a baby. Here's what I've learned:
People are so nice to you when they see you have a newborn with you! I caught a small glimpse of this when I was pregnant... everyone just treats you so differently. But I think it's even better with a baby. Random people were holding doors for us, smiling at me, talking to me. It's like I was actually SOMEONE rather than just another shopper. Usually I just take my purchase up to the counter and pay for it, with the normal pleasantries exchanged with the cashier. But today, most of the time, they were oohing and aahing over Chase, asking me how old he was, etc. And there were two girls at two different stores who found an extra large dressing room for me so the stroller could fit and so that I could feed Chase when he was crying. They were just so nice and them seemed pleased that they could do something extra to help someone out. And the best part of the day was when I had a conversation with a complete stranger in the Gap dressing room. A few months ago I probably never would have talked to this girl, but today it was different because she had a stroller with a baby and so did I.... so we talked! It's like a completely different world to me. It definitely wasn't a perfect trip to the mall by any means. There were tough moments too. Like trying to get the stroller to unfold in the middle of the parking lot (I had never tried this since Eric always did it)! And trying to maneuver around the racks of clothing with a stroller is not fun either. Most stores are definitely not designed with strollers in mind. I have no idea how those moms with the double strollers do it! Seems impossible to me that they could possibly enter a store and buy anything! Oh and I discovered that Chase has no appreciation for a good sale! Just when I discovered the best sale all day, he decided to really start fussing and it was time to go. A little feeding just wasn't going to cut it and besides, I was out of diapers since he managed to poop through 3 of them at the doctors office! He just wasn't crazy about the nurse sticking the thermometer you know where!
In 2 days we're leaving for Tampa on our house hunting trip! I will be sure to post lots of pictures when we return... hopefully of our new home! :)
