We ordered a DNA test for Zoey and Lyla to see whether they were identical or fraternal twins. Every time I had an ultrasound when I was pregnant, the doctors would say that they were "pretty sure" the girls were identical. However they always added, "BUT... we can't know 100%..." From what we understood, they thought they were identical based on the fact that there was only one placenta present. But supposedly you could have 2 placentas that fused together, so they said there was no way to know for sure without a DNA test. We went back and forth on whether or not this was really worth our money (does it really matter?)... but after reading a couple of books on twins and talking to other moms of twins, we decided to go ahead and get it done. We just figured that the girls will want to know for SURE one day, so they might as well know from the very beginning, instead of always wondering. Especially since so many people come up to us and say, "they don't really look alike!" That's actually fine with me... I hope they always look a little different from each other. But as it turns out, every day they do seem to be growing more and more alike in appearance.
One note I want to add: this will probably be one of the few times you see Zoey and Lyla in matching outfits. I've gone back and forth on this issue too... when I first found out I was pregnant with twin girls I swore I would "never" put them in matching outfits (not really sure why)! But then once they were born I suddenly changed my mind and thought it was so cute to see them side by side in the same outfit! And now, I'm starting to swing towards the other side again. My conclusion is this: we have so many cute matching outfits given to us by friends, and hand-me-downs from a friend who also has twin girls, that I can't NOT use them. So I've decided that we can dress them alike up until their first birthday and then I'm calling it quits. I know that our family will always see them as singular and unique, but I really want everyone else to see them and treat them that way as well. We are so fortunate to have been blessed with 2 baby girls, who just so happen to have the same DNA, and who are each beautiful in their own way!

So fun to know for sure! They definitely look identical to me.
I would have wanted to know too! And I think I would feel the exact same way about the outfits!! Miss you!!
