Zoey Kathryn (baby A) and Lyla Marie (baby B)
It is so, so good to know their names! :)
Yesterday was a good day. We went to see a perinatologist (high risk doctor) and had a very lengthy level II ultrasound. I admit that I was a little nervous going in. Having seen just midwives during my pregnancies with Chase and Siena, I'm not used to this "high risk" label and all of the increased testing and attention. Because I had to switch from a midwife to a regular OB, I had all of my medical records in hand after my 20 week ultrasound; and Eric and I read them thoroughly! No one told us this, but we read that baby B (Lyla) had a single artery umbilical cord. So of course, we did lots of google searching and read some pretty scary things about the possible implications. You can read more about it here and here. So we knew at this ultrasound they would be looking for other possible problems. We were there at the doctor's office for 3 hours (!) as they took measurements of both girls, and did an echo-cardiogram on each of their hearts. The tech left the room a couple of times "to check and make sure she got everything," which we figured was code for, "I'm going to talk to the doctor!" So we waited on the edge of our seats for them to come back and tell us the news. Finally, we saw the doctor and he said that the results were good: both girls are growing at the appropriate rate (they are the right size for a single baby at this age!), their fluid levels are normal (a concern with twin to twin transfusion syndrome), and there are no visible abnormalities! He explained in detail about the single artery umbilical cord and showed us the pictures on the ultrasound. The only new finding was that Lyla's cord was attached at the edge of the placenta, unlike Zoey (baby A)'s cord, which is attached at the middle. This isn't a huge problem, but it does make them worry more about her growth rate. However, like I said, they are still the right size for now, so we couldn't have received better news!!! There is always still a chance that there may be an issue down the road, which is why I have to go in for ultrasounds every month, and there might be something they can't see now, which would show up at birth or even later in life. But we were thrilled with the results and felt like we could finally relax and not worry so much!
Here are the pics from yesterday (Zoey is on top, Lyla is on bottom):

Beautiful names!!!! Can't wait to see their little faces on this wonderful blog. You are an inspiration, Shannon. (Okay, read that again whenever you need to FEEL that way).
I absolutely love their names! And you, my friend, are beautiful!
Shannon- I absolutely love the names you picked out! Praying you have an uneventful pregnancy with the girls and that you can rest as much as possible considering your other two little ones:)
I totally forgot to respond to your question about the poddee bottles...once the girls turn around 8/12 weeks you can use these (if you want to pump) when you are in a pinch so they could sit in their swings/bouncies/car seats and eat. It was hard for me to try it for the first time b/c I felt like a bad mom for not holding them but my sister coaxed me to do it and it helped so much! My children are not scared in any way:) haha
