I love my Siena. She captured my heart from day one and she's always been so full of personality! Her adorable little smile, the way her hair curls, the way she talks and talks... I just love everything about her. But don't let this sweet, innocent face fool you...

because at the age of 18 months, she has discovered her independence and there's no turning back! She knows all about how to say, "NO!" to mommy, how to run away when she doesn't want to do something, and how to pitch a huge temper tantrum!! Suddenly, simple little things like changing her diaper, getting her dressed, brushing her teeth, and buckling her in the car seat have become huge events and a source of stress for all of us. Worst of all are mealtimes: any time I step into the kitchen to start preparing a breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Siena is right behind me screaming, "SNACK!" and crying until her food is ready. Of course, I usually offer her something to munch on while she waits, but she eats it so quickly and then wants more, so I find that I'm spending all of my time just making sure her snack bowl is filled instead of fixing the meal! And plus I don't want her to get full from the snacks, even if they're healthy, because I want her to join us for the main event. Anyways, I think a lot of the problem is just the communication barrier: she says about 10 words or so and can sign a little bit, but mostly she just wants to be heard and understood like the rest of us.
Another example of her independence: she now sleeps in a "big girl" bed!!! We went ahead and put together the top bunk of the bunk beds that Chase and Siena will be sharing soon. This worked out perfectly because the top bunk already has side rails so she can get used to sleeping in a big bed, can get in and out by herself, but we don't have to worry about her falling out. She loved the bed right away and has been doing really, really well in it! Every morning when she gets out of bed, Chase comes to let her out of her room and then they go to the playroom together to play for a while before Chase wakes us up at 7am! It's perfect!

Next step: moving them into the same room together!!!
