One afternoon last week I suddenly realized we were out of food. Fruit snacks for dinner just won't cut it, so we had to make a trip to Publix. No big deal... it wasn't as disastrous as aforementioned trips! But the problem is- it took way too long and we didn't get home until close to 6. If you're a mom, you know that 6 o'clock (or pretty much 5-8pm in our house) is the "witching hour." The kids start going nuts for some reason. So I'm trying to get the groceries in the door, take the dog out to poop, carry around a crying, hungry Siena, ignore my own hungry stomach, and answer Chase's 100 questions about what's for dinner and why isn't daddy coming home tonight. I decide to prioritize on the groceries and just worry about getting the milk in the fridge, and deal with the rest later. Then I warm up Siena's babyfood, give her some puffs to occupy her while she waits in the high chair, and start trying to pull something together for dinner (ended up being a frozen chicken stir fry meal and salad). Siena never really stops crying because at this point she's exhausted (she usually goes to bed around 6:30 these days), but I can't put her to bed yet because I need to feed her, Chase and the dog. I'm calling him "the dog" instead of "Berkeley", by the way, because I'm still kind of mad at him over what happens next. I get our salads and stir fry ready and call to Chase in the playroom: "time for supper!" To which he responds, "No! I want to play!" Well, Eric and I are pretty strict on this point: We will all sit down and eat together, and even if Chase doesn't want to eat, he still has to come sit with the family. But Eric wasn't there to help round him up, so I debated about letting it slide this time... but finally decided that I needed to be consistent and make him come sit down. So off I ran to chase Chase around the house. I returned to the kitchen to find Berkeley eating Siena's babyfood right off the table! Wonderful. So I got out more baby food, continued trying to feed a crying baby and to get Chase to eat his dinner. Then Chase announces, "have to go potty!" and he dashed out of the kitchen towards the bathroom.... only to return a few minutes later to say, "mommy, went poo poo! Need you to wipe me!" (I so wish he could wipe himself!! When does this start happening??) So I get up from the table and head to the bathroom with him. When I returned, what do you think was happening? Berkeley was eating MY dinner!!! This was my breakdown moment, and I had to spend the next minute with my eyes closed, just crying and trying to collect myself and keep moving. I always tell myself, "just keep moving!" I called Eric, who was busy working but took a minute to hear me vent, and then I felt better. But then there was bath time and bed time, dishes and laundry, and trying to find something else to eat. What a night!
As hard as all of that was, again, I'd never give it up for the world. I love these two little creatures (and yes, even Berkeley) with all that I am.
Here are some favorite pics and video from the past week:
Siena crawling!
We went to a car wash/oil change place and Chase thought it was just the coolest thing ever!
The most incredible thing to me is how much Chase and Siena are interacting now! Chase loves to feed her baby food, sings songs to her in the car, talks to her in some kind of gibberish that only she can understand, and likes to "protect her, just like daddy does at work!" I know I've posted a picture of them in the laundry basket before, but it's one Chase's favorite things to do with her and I couldn't resist some more pictures of it!
