Last night at our house...

1:15-1:45am: Siena wakes up and I nurse her back to sleep. No problem.

Around 3:45am: The power goes out. I always wake up when this happens... for some reason, all of your appliances shutting off at once makes a very loud noise. And this happens far too often in our neighborhood. I have no idea why, but it drives us all crazy!

4:15am: Chase wakes up screaming, "Lights broken!" A few months ago we made the mistake of letting him sleep with his light on and he's had to sleep with it on ever since. I'm really not sure how to get out of this pattern (if anyone has advice, let me know)! So, when the power goes out, he usually wakes up at some point and discovers that it's dark and that the light switch doesn't work anymore. And this terrifies him! So I bring him in bed with us, which does not go so well.

4:15-4:30am: Chase is in our bed... kicking, turning, talking. He just does not sleep well in our bed.

4:30am: The power comes back on so I take Chase back to his room. He lays down.

4:35-4:45am: Chase is yelling, "Wake up now! Eat now! Hungry! Cereal!" He has no idea that it's way too early! I go in his room and try my best to convince him that it's not morning yet, but he's just not buying it. I try rubbing his back, laying down with him, holding him, reading a book... nothing works. I end up leaving with him crying uncontrollably, but my hope is that he'll realize quickly how tired he is and fall asleep on his own.

4:50-4:55am: Eric decides to give it a try. No luck.

5:00am: I try again and this time I'm successful. I don't think I said or did anything different... he just plain wore himself out.

5:02am: Siena wakes up! :)

5:03-5:30am: Nurse Siena back to sleep.

7:30am (this is LATE for us but we were all exhausted!): Everyone wakes up, we rush to get breakfast ready, lunch packed, and load up the double BOB. Run Chase to school and then run home! Whew!

What about one of those mini-lap nightlights? Or letting him pick out a night-light? We have a Lightning McQueen one I found at the dollar store. We tried to go without (save energy and be eco-friendly), but Elias would wake up EVERY time after we turned it off. We gave up and stick to recycling and composting. = ) What a funny night, hopefully you are napping while I write this!
