These 2 precious little girls belong to our friends Clay and Allison, who live in Owings Mills... our old stompin' ground! Clay was the pastor at our church, Horizon, and the leader of our "link group." But more importantly, he and Allison were, and still are, great friends! Their honesty and sense of humor is what I appreciate most. They are so totally candid that sometimes it catches me off guard, which I love! And as far as sense of humor goes... how many pastors do you know who would dress up as a bible-slammin', hellfire and brimstone preacher for Halloween, along with dressing up their baby as a devil?! I'll never forget that Halloween party... I was laughing the entire night! (Especially because I was dressed up as a "nerd" but no one seemed to notice... everyone kept asking, "why didn't you dress up Shannon?!") Anyways, we went up to visit them last weekend and had a blast just hanging out and eating ice cream (or in Rachel's case, eating cones). It was our first time seeing Olivia and we couldn't believe how much Rachel had grown! She is one cool girl. I miss all of them and wish they lived closer.
We're not really doing much for Memorial weekend. We went out to a place called Old Glory in Georgetown with some friends on Friday night, and to Tony and Joe's afterwards. I was extremely disappointed at Old Glory when I found out they don't have fried okra anymore! It's the only place I knew of in DC that served it, but apparently not anymore. Fried okra is definitely on my top 10 favorite foods list.
Yesterday we took the dogs on a run at Savage park. They have some awesome trails there and it was practically deserted... I guess because it's a holiday weekend. Not much else going on the next two days... just enjoying the time off and hanging out with friends and family.
Oh and just for clarification- in the post below I mention that we're trying to raise money for GBMC's NICU. In case you're wondering, NICU stands for neonatal intensive care unit. I figured this was a good cause considering that so many of our friends have had babies this past year. Thankfully none of them had to make use of an NICU, but if they had, I would pray that it was well equipped with the latest technology. I hope everyone will consider donating a small amount to our effort!
