Decoratin'

One of my favorite Christmas memories with my family was loading up the car, driving out into the middle of nowhere, and cutting down our own Christmas tree. It always seemed like such an adventure! When we lived in Maryland and B.K. (Before Kids) Eric and I would drive way up north, usually with Eric's sisters, and cut down a tree of our own. It was like an all-day affair... hiking through (sometimes) a foot of snow, roaming past hundreds of trees until we found the perfect one!

Fast forward to life in Florida... this week we threw on our flip flops, loaded up the car and drove a whole 5 minutes to the nearest grocery store parking lot and bought our pre-cut tree from underneath a big tent! It doesn't have quite the same "feel" but still, there's Christmas music on the radio, so it must be December, right?!

Looking for our tree...

Here it is!!!Our tree is perfect: only 2 days since it was cut (or so we were told!) from a NC farm and our house smells wonderful because of it! The night after we got our tree, we made some sugar cookies, cranked up the radio, and pulled out the totes full of lights and ornaments!

Decorating sugar cookies:

By the way, here is my Public Service Announcement for the day: watch out for the traditional Pillsbury cookie dough (the blue packages)... they are loaded with trans fat! It's such a shame because they make the cutest "break and bakes" with the little trees and snowmen on them and I know a ton of people will buy them every Christmas. I'm not sure why Pillsbury continues to put trans fat in their food (check out all of their packaging), because other companies can make the same product without it. In fact, they can too because they just came out with their new "Simply" cookies and they taste just as good! They just cost more. We tried the "Immaculate Baking Co." cookies this year and they were really good... they even come with sprinkles to dip them in. Or the Nestle brand (yellow package) is okay. Okay, I'll get off the soap box now. Here are our yummy (trans fat free!) cookies:

This is about as far as Siena made it that night... she was so tired, so she missed out on the festivities!
Chase loved testing all of the lights!

Helping Chase decorate his mini tree for his room (Berkeley was a big help too!):

Decoratin' "the BIIIIIIIIGGG tree", as Chase calls it!
