Today was a big day for Chase... although he won't really feel the change until August. He is officially signed up for school! We are so fortunate to have 2 very nice "early learning centers" right here in our neighborhood that we can walk or ride bikes to. This morning I went with two of my good friends to take a tour of both centers and sign our kids up for classes. Chase will only be going to a morning program on Tuesday and Thursday... more like a "moms morning out" than anything. I had always thought that I'd wait on school until he was old enough for VPK (voluntary pre-kindergarten: a FREE 5-day-a-week program they have here in Florida for 4 year olds). But I decided to go ahead and enroll him in classes 2 morning a week for 2 reasons: 1) With the new baby due in July, it'll be nice to have a few mornings to have some quality time with the little one; not mention time to take them all of the many doctor's appointments they have as newborns! 2) I think it'll be really good for Chase to get some more social interaction... especially without me around! He definitely needs more practice away from "mommy." Plus I'm excited about how much he'll learn and be exposed to. He seemed really happy to be there when we were walking around on our tour. I actually had to drag him away kicking and crying because he found a train table and was determined to stay! I'm thinking he'll be just fine.
Although Chase's 2nd birthday is still a few weeks away, I've already started experiencing some interesting new quirkly 2-year-old-like behavior. He is so sensitive these days about things being done in exactly the same way every time. For example, one morning I wasn't paying attention and I poured his Cheerios (that he eats EVERY morning) into the wrong bowl. There was nothing wrong with the bowl that they were in... it just wasn't the red one with the little straw built in that he loves! He started flipping out and for a moment, I seriously thought he was hurt or something! You would've thought that he closed his fingers in the cabinet by the way he was screaming. But as soon as I pulled his red bowl out, he stopped immediately.
His language and vocabulary continue to grow so much every day! Being around Chase now is so much different than it was just 2 months ago. He knows all of his colors now, except purple, and is constantly pointing them out everywhere we go. He says red, orange ("oran"), yellow ("aloe"), green ("een"), blue, pink, brown, white and black. He especially loves to point out what color the traffic lights are as we approach them in the car. There are no more peaceful car rides with Chase... I'm bombarded by loud shouts of "een, go" or "red" (he just makes the sign for stop) and sometimes "aloe". But when there are no lights to point out, there are plenty of cars, buses, and trucks. He lets me know about every single one of them and what color they are. He's still missing some sounds when he says car ("are") and truck ("huck") but there is no mistaking what he means!
