Abbie!
On our way back from Charleston 2 weeks ago we had an extra person in the car... my 6 year old niece, Abbie! She decided that she wanted to come stay with us for 10 days, and then fly back home on an airplane all by herself! Chase loved having Abbie around to play with, and Eric and I got some practice at parenting a 6 year old. The only problem is that our knowledge on the subject was limited to what we had learned from watching Super Nanny on TV! Still, we had fun doing some new things like playing UNO, checkers, and watching all six of the Star Wars movies in one week! We even went to Cold Stone one night to get ice cream, which is a rare treat, and easier to justify when you have a 6 year old in the house! I especially loved some of the "games" that Abbie made up... like at dinner time, she would say, "Raise your hand if you like the spaghetti!" And we all joined in, even Chase! He usually raised 2 hands, which I took to mean that he really, really liked it! Another favorite moment of mine was when I took Chase and Abbie to the pool one day. We rode our bikes there (she borrowed one from our neighbors), but we were disappointed when it started thundering as soon as we got in the pool. So I told Abbie we would just wait the storm out for a bit, since I didn't want to ride home in the rain anyways. We sat in a little patio area and ate watermelon and played lots of games. At one point Abbie said to me, "Aunt Shannon, when is going to stop raining?" And I replied that I had no idea. So she told me that I should, "ask God when he was going to bring out the sunshine" and then she added, "And say please. And thank you!" I thought that was so precious, and a good reminder of the right way to pray!

This picture is hard to see, but it's so much fun! Abbie and Chase were singing and dancing on the window seat in our kitchen, giving us a little concert at dinnertime! This was a daily occurrence... I learned lots of Hannah Montana songs!

They finally got the swim for about 10 minutes... then it started thundering again, so we rode our bikes home in the rain! When we got home, Abbie said, "That was crazy!" And I said, "Yes, but crazy times make good memories!"

What an awesome pool! Though I have to admit, when I was a lifeguard, I prayed for those thunderstorms! :)
Abbie will have these memories for ever! I would visit my grandparents for a week all by myself starting at age 4 and they are some of my best childhood memories. Maybe y'all weren't sure of the parenting of the 6 year old, but I think you have "fun Aunt" down really well!
Love you, miss you!
