News Bites

Okay, I'm finally ready for fall to arrive... where is it!? Thanksgiving is tomorrow and the temperature today is 82 degrees! It seems a little strange. Sometimes it's hard to remember what month it is. I miss the leaves changing colors and I'd kind of like to put on my jeans and wear a sweatshirt. But on the other hand, it's nice that everything is still so green outside and I do enjoy wearing my flip flops and laying in the hammock. We could even go to the pool if we wanted... it's open year-round. Actually we did have a "cold" day last week. It was 64 degrees! I think that's about as bad as it's going to get here.

Chase's current favorite food: Earth's Best Sunny Days Snack Bars! Yum! My favorite: Wishbone Raspberry Hazelnut Vinaigrette Dressing! I could drink it straight from the bottle!

A few weeks ago we took a little field trip downtown, and it didn't go so well. Eric had to stay downtown overnight for work and Chase and I tagged along. We stayed in a really nice hotel, right on the water with a great view! Chase loved playing around in the hotel room but for some reason he did NOT want to sleep that night! He was up ALL night crying and screaming and nothing would calm him down. I even tried putting him in bed with us, which I've never done before, but that didn't work either. I felt so bad for the other guests. Yes, we were those people that you love to hate when you stay in a hotel. I almost got in the car and drove home at 2am but decided to stick it out. What a nightmare! We won't be staying in a hotel again anytime soon! At least not with Chase!

Chase playing in the room (with no shirt because he had just eaten dinner and it was a total mess)!
our view:
Berkeley has a little infection on his belly, which means he's privileged enough to wear a satellite dish around his head for a few weeks! This has provided endless amusement for Chase, who has been been laughing at him ever since the vet put it on! Poor Berkeley!

Last weekend we took a trip to see the Lithia Springs, which are right down the street from where we live. I can't believe it took us 7 months to drive just a few minutes to this park, which I've had on my list of things to do for a while. We took the dogs along too and they enjoyed getting nice and muddy! It was really neat to see some natural springs, which are all over Florida. The water was so clear and warm! They also had a nice playground there and Chase went down the slide for the first time by himself!

I'll probably be buying a few books for Chase for Christmas. Does anyone have a favorite or two that they'd like to share? My current favorite to read to Chase is "Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson. It's so cute! At this point, he still doesn't really get into the books too much... he'd still rather eat them, so I just pick the ones that are fun for me to read!

We had some visitors from Maryland last week! Ed, Bea, and Cathy stopped by our house with Chase's G-ma! Even though we only got to see them for a few hours, it was a nice visit! Miss Cathy brought Chase some books and he says they taste really good!

We have so much to be thankful for... this past year has brought so many great things! Eric's new job, our new home in a great neighborhood in Florida, and of course, Chase! We love our little blue-eyed boy and are happy to say that he's changed our life in so many ways!

Chase is getting soooo big now - he looks so grown up in his jeans! He'll be so different when we finally get to see him again!

Hmmmm...good kids books...when I was a nanny I would take the girls to the library every week and they would take out 15 books. We would read every one of them, usually two or three or four times each!! I'm racking my brain as to what their favorites were (or what my favorites were), but there were so many that I can't think of any in particular. Oh, "It's OK to be Different" by Todd Parr is absolutely fabulous. And of course, you have to get him Dr. Suess books. I'll let you know if any others pop into my head!

Have a great Thanksgiving!! Oh, and we're having a Christmas party at our new place - you guys should come!! :)

You could always check out the dollar store. I would say Used Bookstores....but you never know with germs, esp with babies putting their mouths ALL over them!! Elias was always good at ripping them too! Does Chase do that? I know he likes paper!! One of my favorites and coincidently (sp?)one of elias' too is Goodnight Moon. It also serves as a learning tool, such as, Where is the chair? Where is the moon?, because it has SO many things in it! I know Chase might be a little small right now, but you're never too young to start reading! hehe! I also really enjoyed the books that you can press the buttons on the sides. The toddlers in my old daycare days really liked being a "big girl" or "big boy" and pressing the button themselves! Kristen and I LOVED the bernstein bear & critter books when we were small. As they might be targeted towards a little bit older age, they are timeless and cheap at Walmart!! I know I might not be the best at advice since I do not have kids, but I did have some experience with toddlers in the reading department....so the more pictures, the better! Esp. ones that they themselves can hold. :) Merry early Christmas!!
