Hard to believe that it's been 4 years since I graduated from Clemson! The good news is that having 4 years of work experience under my belt means that I'm eligible to take the Professional Engineering exam in April. Not that I really need to become a "Professional Engineer" for the type of job that I do, but most of the guys I work with have their license and they're pushing me to get mine too. They love coming into my office to give me more study materials and offer advice (even though the test has drastically changed since they all took it)! Anyways, so I'm hitting the books. Most people take a review course to study for the exam, but it turns out that the course starts right around my due date... so that won't work! Instead I've had to buy all kinds of books and practice problem sets so that I can sort of make my own course. It's really strange to be doing this type of thing again... reading, taking notes, working endless math problems. But I'm actually enjoying it! I have my little schedule all made up so I know which topics I need to cover every week to get me through April. The real challenge will be trying to do all of this once the baby's born! That's why I'm starting now. We'll see what happens in April. The pass rate is only around 60%, so I know a lot of people have to take it multiple times, and that could be me! I figure it's better to start trying now than later!
Speaking of tests, I just found out that I didn't pass my 1 hour glucose tolerance test that they usually give you when you're around 28 weeks pregnant. That means there's a chance I could have gestational diabetes and now I have to go take a 3 hour glucose test. Any other pregnant/formerly pregnant women out there who have taken this test? Not looking forward to it at all! But actually I think the orange syrupy stuff they make you drink tastes pretty good! I'm just not looking forward to the "special diet" I have to be on for 3 days, plus the 3 hours of sitting at the lab while they draw my blood. Ugh.
